Aced 431 ft. hole 14! With a brand new blue Star Wraith Jim hit his longest ace ever it was his 48th Ace in 30 years. He let it go about 5 ft off ground down the OB side. It skipped straight on the sidewalk and went straight in to bang chains. If not for the Ace it would have been 70 ft. long. He also eagled 12, a 901 ft. hole in just 3 throws. Hole 13 888 got some revenge with a double bogey 7. Had a perfect drive and a perfect upshot on his 3rd the wind caught the disc lifted it up and stalled it early into the asphalt. This is Jim’s 9th trip to the USDGC, he’s also the 2000 Masters world champion He shot even par 68 and found lots of trouble. Jim explained he had 25 OBs here in 72 holes and that’s what kills you on Winthrop Gold! |

Everyone was out early for the release of this year’s Champion Spectator Rocs of which only 1000 were made. Many were in line well before 7:30 AM when the doors didn’t open till 8 AM. Over 50 were in line before the doors opened. This year sales were limited to 5 Rocs per person making this a very limited release. Some were set aside to raise money for the USDGC. |

Friday, October 5th, 2007Shot 59, I threw better and made more short putts. He’s had trouble putting inside the circle the first two days. Took some extra time when putting. Shot of the day was hole 12 he had a headwind, threw a Champ Teerex and it flipped up, sliding down the sidewalk, finishing just barely in bounds, he went for the green in two and hit a 30 footer for a birdie.
On 888, his long roller stayed left curled in way down by the cedar but OB. Went for the green and got his circle 4. Wind’s been consistent so it’s helping the rollers stay in bounds on 13. Barsby had a great roller there and stayed in bounds. He felt he played good golf, shot 29, 30 on back! Hole 17, his strategy is to just layed up, dumped it to the lay up and then pitch across the bails of hay. Made the putt for 3. He appreciates that Harold made that lay up area, it’s good to have the option. Not going for the green is more comfortable. If you had to go birdie, birdie on 17 and 18 for the win of course he would go for it.
Go to discs, lot of par 4s he goes with rancho and 8x rocs. In the wind he’s throwing, Champ TeeRex, also Spike hyzer Max, low skip angles and can trust it in the wind. Enjoying the weather, little bit of rain but other wise staying dry, this tournament is just a great atmosphere. Every pro should strive to get to this tournament.
